Rebound effect in road freight transport
An interesting article demonstrating the rebound effect resulting from increasing energy efficiency in the road freight transport sector in Portugal. Matos F J F and Silva F J F (2011). Energy Policy. The rebound effect on road freight transport: Evidence from Portugal, 39, 5, 2833-2841
The study finds that increasing energy efficiency by 1% results in a reduction of 0.759% in energy consumption, a direct rebound effect of about 24.1%.
It concludes that, given these findings, and taking into account the fuel consumption of this sector in 2006 in Portugal, estimates of reduced fuel consumption without considering the direct rebound effect may be overestimated by about 0.87 million litres of diesel per year for each percentage point increase in energy efficiency.

Its climate is heavily affected by warm Atlantic currents that temper winters and summers on much of the continent. In the European Union, farmers represent only 4.7% of the working population, yet manage nearly half of its land area.
